Tackle It Tuesday CCSS

Hello Darlings!  Happy Tuesday!  I hope it is summer for you now! I have to go in today to check out and do permanent records. Yay!  So I hope you have heard about my new weekly linky party: Tackle It Tuesday!  If you have a blog you are invited to link up.  If you are a follower, check back each Tuesday for awesome ideas submitted by talented teachers!

The activity I have chosen to share is a Measurement Game I used with my third graders.  Looking through the CCSS, however, I find that this activity only fits grade 2.

CCSS 2.MD Measure and estimate lengths in standard units.
1. Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
3. Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters

Multiplication Boot Camp

Hello darlings!  There are only five days of school left!  Ahhh!  While I am usually ecstatic and jumping for joy, this year I am sad.  I think it has to do with losing my mom 2 months ago and the fact that these kids show me unconditional love everyday!  I will miss all of their sweetness and whining!    I just hope I can keep myself busy this summer and fill my mind with other things.

On a happier note, I finally finished Multiplication and Division Boot Camp!!  OMG!  This went so much better than I ever imagined! The kiddos LOVED it!  One of my kiddos soldiers even told me today that she was so excited that she made Sergeant that she was all tingly inside!

So how does it work?  I give soldiers a pretest to see which facts they already have mastered.  Soldiers have daily drills (timed tests) and daily P.T. (homework with flashcards). They keep track of their progress with a graph.  I am the Drill Sergeant, so I wear an army hat and get into character.  They love this!

Next, soldiers have to complete missions (games and activities).  You should see them!  Some of the games require them to do push ups and jumping jacks!  It is so funny, but they work really hard!

This mission requires a lot of strategy.  Can you tell he is thinking hard?

Download this game for free!  IF you like it, try out the rest of the unit in my TPT store by clicking here.

I had to share this cute little saying!

We went on our field trip to the St. Louis Arch and Old Courthouse on Monday.  We perform the Bubble Gum Trial at the courthouse every year as we study Government. I'll post pics soon.

Friday Freebie

Hello darlings!  What a crazy week!  I'm Linking up at three fun Friday themed linky parties.

   fiveforfriday

1. The first crazy thing this week was when I had to tell my grade level that we have to move storage closets this year...  Not fun! You know how much work there is to do at the end of the year already...  In the process of looking at the overwhelming task ahead, one of my team mates noticed that his rubbermaid containers and my containers were missing.  Everyone we talked to had no idea what could have happened to them.  After sending a mass email to the staff asking if they witnessed an alien abduction or something, we got an email back from a coworker who said he had taken them to move his house over the weekend.  =)

2. We had our Publishing Party for our parents on Thursday.  Kiddos had written about who they were going to be in 20 years.  It was darling!  I had a class slideshow that I had created using smilebox.com and when I got to school the day of the party, it was blocked by our district's server!  Talk about freaking out!  My wonderfully amazing Tech Contact/Computer Teacher tried her best to get the tech people to unblock it.  After a lot of run around she was told to fill out a form...By this time, parents were already here for lunch.  Thank goodness I saw my principal in the hall!  I asked her if she had some sort of executive power and if she could do something.  Within ten minutes, the site was unblocked!  YAY principal!

You can download the papers for free by clicking the picture!

3. Today was our Economics Carnival and it DIDN'T rain!  We were so worried!  It turned out great!  The only thing better is if we could have had food.  In past years we have had candy and fair type food, but now there is a food allergy policy... Does your school have that?

Kiddos LOVE the Economics Carnival!  When I brought them in to take the assessment after the carnival, they were SILENT!  They were so serious about doing a good job!

Get the entire unit here.

4. Our Teacher Appreciation is going to be the last week of school, but I just had to share this picture one of my teamies sent me.
