Keeping Up with Workshop Records

Hello darlings!  I wish I had some awesome advice for you like Shelley did in her last post!  What did you think about her cupcake eating skills?  My only "weird" eating habit is eating my pizza upside down.  Not me, the pizza, people!  I think you get more flavor that way because all the toppings come in contact with your taste-buds and you don't get stuff stuck in your upper teeth.  It's a win win!

Back to school stuff...  How do you organize all of your running records and conference notes for Reading Workshop?  There are so many ways!  To all the newbies out there, it is just a trial and error kind of deal until you find something that works for you.  Here is what is CURRENTLY working for me...

My Conferring Binder:
Here is where I store all of my notes.  Notice the tabs.  The binder decor is just from a scrapbook page that I cut to fit the binder.  It makes it easy for me to see it at a glance since I have so many binders!

Here is the inside of the binder.  I have each kiddos' name labeled and then I place their conference sticky under their name.  Right now you can see I placed their goal for the quarter that they wrote themselves.  I can use all of this at conferences because I can just take off the stack of stickies to use with the parents. (PS. if you know how to rotate a pic in blogger, please let me know!  My pic was not portrait!)

Again- I'm sorry the pics are weird.  They are landscape in my files...
Here is what I take around with me.  It is a mini clipboard with a pen attached to the back so I never have to search for one.  (and I have a special pen that I like)   I use the chart to keep notes at a glance.  I explained this in one of my previous posts that you can check out here.  You can also download the chart.

This is my own little Assessment Wall to keep track of kiddos' reading levels.  I wrote their names on mini sticky notes so I can move them easily.  I drew a line to separate on level and below level.  Yes, my friends, we have a lot of work to do this year!!  I blurred out the names to protect the innocent. =)

So what works for you?  I really would love to know!!

  3. Ugh, I swear I need a secretary! I think paperwork is my biggest issue. Maybe it's b/c I'm not a binder kind of girl. I'm a folder girl...but let's be serious all you do in a folder is stuff things in it.

I love, love, love all of your stuff. I stared at it all day Friday during an online training. I kept thinking I wish I had a file folder, sticky's and a binder. I've got all of those pieces at school...I just need to assemble them. Okay, I've got to get to work!!!

  5. Hello, you asked about how to correct the images landscape to portrait and vice-versa. What I have done is go to your Picassa web account. Click on the photo you want corrected (make sure it is the most recent image if there are more than one.) It should open with a black background (editing page) on the top toolbar from the right it has been about 3 to the left if my memory serves me correctly. Then reload the image to your blog page.
I really enjoy your blog... I've been away from teaching for 4 years now and I can live vicariously here.
